TITLE: COMMUNITY AUTHOR:--- ABSTRACT:--- ARTICLES: 1997 Oktoberfest Woman of the Year in the category of Arts, History and Literature Over the past 10-12 year period, Chandrika Anjaria has been a tireless volunteer worker with the goal of enhancing Indian heritage cultural activities, making the wider community aware of their significance. To this end she has taken leadership roles in Asian Indian organizations, and participated in mainstream, often as a spokesperson explaining concerns of the Asian Indian community arising from their different cultural heritage. For Chandrika, who came to Canada 26 years ago, her volunteer work has provided an opportunity to say, "Thank You Canada". Underscoring her efforts to preserve Indian cultural heritage in this country is the belief that an understanding of other cultures is what makes Canada strong. Chandrika has no plans to ease out of her public life. As president of NICC she is planning a women's conference in Toronto during their 10th anniversary celebrations and annual meeting. 1997 Stratford Kiwanis Musical Festival: Winner Bonnie Casey, eleven year old of Blair,Cambridge Hard work and talent pay off for Bonnie Casey who won the Silver Lining Trophy for the most deserving Speech Arts performer plus the R.Douglas Barkley Memorial Cash Award for the most promising student in Speech Arts, 16 years of age and under. She has been a drama student at the Beckett School in Kitchener for the past four years. Mrs. Dorothy Leitch, her drama teacher is very proud of Bonnie. Daniela Mota "a Basketball Starin the Rising" Daniela is a grade 6 Monsignor Haller Student. Her favorite sports are basketball and soccer. She recently participated in a Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship where she achieved the first place in the two first elimination rounds. Daniela has a basketball idol : Michael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls. She is a very competitive individual. Her proud father Inacio anticipates a very bright future in sports for her.
